Yule & Yarn Advent Calendar 2026 ~ pre-order item ~ arrives for December 1st
Welcome to the fifth annual Yule & Yarn Advent Calendar!
Celebrating five years of advent calendars inspired by a very special custom painting by Heather Sleightholm entitled "Home Comfort". Heather's folk art is a delight for the eyes and evokes nostalgia for simpler times. In "Home Comfort", Wool Maiden is cozy at home with her spinning wheel. Wool Maiden's daughter crochets a blanket beside her. Nestled in a basket in front of the antique cookstove is a newborn, little lamb, warming up on the chilly spring day. Through the window, Clover the guardian dog is alert to the flock of sheep around her.
This painting will appear as a small print in each Yule & Yarn package and is the basis for the fibre's dyed palette. Colours to expect are smoky purples, greyish blues, forest greens, burgundy, dusty rose, and rich browns. Yarns will include tonals, semi-solids, variegated, and of course a few speckles.
Again, we are happy to offer three different options of our popular advent calendar : Folklore, Wildwood, or Homespun. You will find 25 packages individually and festively wrapped with a special sticker to match each day in December up to and including the 25th! All three options come with 6 handmade or locally sourced gifts that I'm sure you'll love.
The Folklore Yule & Yarn uses Wool Maiden's Folklore yarn in Sport weight, and is carefully hand-dyed using professional acid dyes. There are 18 mini skeins and 1 full skein of the Folklore yarn.
The Wildwood Yule & Yarn uses Wool Maiden's Folklore yarn in Sport weight as well, but these skeins are entirely plant-dyed. There are 18 mini skeins and 1 full skein of the Wildwood yarn.
The Homespun Yule & Yarn is a different Yule & Yarn package catering to handspinners and felters. You will receive one large batt (approximately 85 grams or 3 ounces) as well as 6 mini batts, 6 combed top in natural sheep colours, and 6 hand dyed combed top. We are excited to offer entirely gorgeous Haunui fibre in the natural sheep colours of combed top! Each of the 18 fibre gifts weigh approximately 28 grams or 1 ounce. Batts are drum carded using a variety of soft, all-wool fibres, mostly from Haunui sheep and also including Merino, BFL, Gotland, Shetland, and silk.
The yarn base for the Folklore and Wildwood options is Wool Maiden's Folklore base which is a superwash blend of 75% wool, 15% cashmere, and 10% silk. A full skein is 384 metres (420 yards) per 115 grams (4 ounces) while the mini skeins are approximately 77 metres (84 yards) per 23 grams (0.8 ounces). In total, each of these Yule & Yarn Advent Calendars include 1770 metres (1935 yards) of luxuriously soft fibre.
