Stella Blue ~ Gotland with Shetland + BFL ~ undyed ~ Dk weight ~ 183 metres (200 yards)

$30.00

Stella Blue is one of our most popular sheep and her yarn is a favourite!  Stella's locks are a light charcoal with an incredible lustrous shimmer.  Spun into a 3 ply Dk weight, Stella's yarn is 183 metres (200 yards) per 100 grams (3.5 ounces).

Gotland sheep come from a Swedish island in the Baltic Sea.  They are a longwool breed, however their fibre behaves more like a fine wool with a distinctive halo much like mohair.  With each successive washing, this halo will be enhanced.  Gotland yarn is not as bouncy as other breeds, but drapes beautifully.  It will felt if given the chance, so take care to wash in lukewarm water.  Gotland yarn like Stella's is coveted for its unusual lustre and halo, and for its flowing ease.

While predominantly Gotland, Stella also has a wee bit of Shetland and BFL in her genes, though her fleece is entirely Gotland by appearance, handle, and shimmer.

Stella Blue's yarn is a great choice for a garment that highlights drape...shawls, cowls, wraps.  However, it is a good choice for really any kind of garment and is suitable for knits worn next to the skin.

Notes :

Our wool is grown by our beloved flock of fibre sheep here on our little farm in the mountains of British Columbia.  We take great care in raising our animals and we spend hours handpicking all fleeces before we send them off for processing to a family-run mill in Alberta.  You can be sure that your yarn has been handled with love in all stages of its production.

Due to the slow method of transforming raw wool into yarn, each small batch is one of a kind and will reference the individual sheep who grew the fibre.  Please ensure you purchase the right amount for your project as given the nature of small batch yarn, there may be variations in fleeces from year to year.

Enjoy using Wool Maiden's farm raised yarn from Stella Blue.  We hope that the garment you create brings great joy and perhaps becomes an heirloom piece in your wardrobe.

Please understand that all attempts have been made to accurately photograph the colour of this yarn.  Due to the range of individual settings on computers, there may be unavoidable colour variance.
