Astrid & Skywalker Sock Set ~ Gotland & BFL ~ naturally dyed ~ Fingering weight ~ 274 + 126 metres (300 + 138 yards)

$42.00

This sock set is a collaboration between Astrid the Gotland and Skywalker the BFL and includes a full skein of silky, lustrous Gotland yarn with two naturally dyed mini skeins from Skywalker.  Astrid's charcoal yarn is 274 metres (300 yards) per  100 grams (3.5 ounces) plus each of Skywalker's mini yarns is 63 metres (69 yards).  That is a total of 412 metres (450 yards) which is plenty to make a pair of socks, or even a small shawl or cowl.

Gotland sheep come from a Swedish island in the Baltic Sea.  They are a longwool breed, however their fibre behaves more like a fine wool with a distinctive halo much like mohair.  With each successive washing, this halo will be enhanced.  Gotland yarn is not as bouncy as other breeds, but drapes beautifully.  It will felt if given the chance, so take care to wash in lukewarm water.  Gotland yarn like Astrid's is coveted for its unusual lustre and halo, and for its flowing ease.
Blue Faced Leicester is another silky and lustrous fibre that appears as tight ringlets.  It is a strong fibre making it a good choice for sock yarn.  In fact both the Gotland and BFL are strong yet soft...perfect for your feet!  Skywalker's mini skeins were dyed with onion skins and insects, creating a harmonious palette to contrast the dark charcoal of Astrid's skein.

Notes :

Our wool is grown by our beloved flock of fibre sheep here on our little farm in the mountains of British Columbia.  We take great care in raising our animals and we spend hours handpicking all fleeces before we send them off for processing to a family-run mill in Alberta.  You can be sure that your yarn has been handled with love in all stages of its production.

Due to the slow method of transforming raw wool into yarn, each small batch is one of a kind and will reference the individual sheep who grew the fibre.  Please ensure you purchase the right amount for your project as given the nature of small batch yarn, there may be variations in fleeces from year to year.

Enjoy using Wool Maiden's farm raised yarn from Astrid and Skywalker.  We hope that the garment you create brings great joy and perhaps becomes an heirloom piece in your wardrobe.

Please understand that all attempts have been made to accurately photograph the colour of this yarn.  Due to the range of individual settings on computers, there may be unavoidable colour variance.
